In these workshops, tinkerers will get to explore circuits, switches, propellers, direct drive, and simple gear systems. Make a BrushBot! This is a vibrating “bug”-like bot. Once you’ve made yours, you can set up a track to see if you can “train” it.  Make a Wobble Bot! With your motor slightly off-balance, your creation will wobble and move. Use this technique to make a fun creature or turn it into a drawing bot. Make a Boat! We’ll see how to make a propeller out of a yogurt container. Attach your propeller to something that floats so that it will push or pull your boat. Make a Car! Add in the complication of a wheel and axle system. Bring friction into the mix. Send your creation careening down the hall!

What craft supplies do I need to have?:

Your kit includes almost everything you will need.  In addition to your kit, you may need a pair of scissors, a pencil, a few colored markers, and a space to work. Know where your recycle bin is located, you may be inspired and want to use some household materials.

We are HERE to Help

TinkerSpace has always been about communal making experiences. Everyone at TinkerSpace works on their own project while receiving guidance from TinkerSpace staff and inspiration from other people’s work. Each workshop introduces a process or mechanism while we look closely at examples, then each tinkerer creates their own project. With our Virtual Workshops, we’ve taken this idea to the Zoom platform. Set up your computer (or other Zoom-capable device) at a work table, gather your supplies, and make with a community. TinkerSpace staff and other participants of the TinkerTime are available to offer advice and guidance and you can be inspired by what others are making.
